“A hundredth of a second here, a hundredth of a second there - even if you put them end to end, they still only add up to one, two, perhaps three seconds, snatched from eternity.” - Robert Doisneau
I am an award-winning young photographer currently based in Wellington, New Zealand. My interests in photography are largely to do with examining human life. I am especially passionate about street photography and photojournalism.
No photographs on this website are posed, and all are in available light - as it appeared when photographed.
My experience includes professional documentary, commercial, sports and portrait photography, photograph competition judging, and speaking on photography. I am a recipient of a Ronald Woolf Memorial Trust grant, which provides funding for promising New Zealand photographers under thirty. My awards include honours at the 2010 New Zealand National Photojournalism Competition, winning the 2011 National Photojournalism Competition, and the Ronald Woolf Award for the top print by a photographer aged under twenty-five at the 2010 National Exhibition. Outside of photography, I hold a BA in International Relations and History from Victoria University, Wellington, gaining a New Zealand Scholarship for tertiary study in 2004, and winning the John F. Kennedy Prize in American history writing in 2007.
